Our History

The Southeast Missouri Children’s Museum is a 501 c 3 non-profit organization, DBA Discovery Playhouse. Established in 2006 by a group of community leaders, the Museum opened at its current building in the Spring of 2010. As a member of the Association of Children’s Museums, we strive to follow best practices when it comes to providing highly engaging exhibits and programs, as well as, excellent customer service.

For Ages 6 Months to 8 Years

Our first-floor exhibits have been designed with younger kids in mind. While most exhibits on the first floor would be fun for most kids under 8, there are some exhibits designed for kiddos 4 and under.

Ages 8 and Up

As kids get older their interests and the way they play begin to change, and that’s why we have a whole floor dedicated to children ages 8 and up. These exhibits are more interactive, hands-on, and educational. Best of all, we have more exhibits coming soon!

Health & Safety

At the Discovery PlayHouse, we put our patrons first, ensuring your comfort and safety throughout your visit so you can focus on learning and having fun! We have detailed cleaning and sanitation procedures that are done by staff before the PlayHouse opens, during the day, and after the PlayHouse closes. All high-touch areas are regularly sanitized, including toys from the Polywog Pond area, water in Kim’s Secret Water Garden, and Hilda, our milking cow. Our costumes in the Dogtown Press Theater exhibit are washed daily, with clean costumes put out each morning. We closely adhere to the recommendations and guidelines set forth by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Missouri Department of Health & Senior Services.
